Bhopal: In the face of escalating attacks in the cow of protection, Madhya Pradesh government on Wednesday approved amends to a law making cow vigilantism a punishable crime.
The amendment to the Agricultural Cattle Preservation Act proposes a jail term from one to five years and a fine of Rs 50,000 for taking part in the crime.
As of now, action against cow vigilantism are taken under various section of Indian Penal Code and code of Criminal Procedure.
The nation has witnessed a phenomenal uptick in attacks in the name of cow protection across the nation.
