After IB input, govt does not give eminence tag to some pvt universities

New Delhi: Following the IB inputs that those associated with certain private universities have been critical of PM Modi, the government is hesitating to give institute of eminence (IoE) status to them, reports ThePrint.

Last month,  Intelligence Bureau sent to the Human Resource Development Ministry inputs regarding this.

The input, according to ThePrint, describes the vice-chancellor of Ashoka University, Pratap Bhanu Mehta an unrelenting critic of the government.

The note terms the university’s chairman and founder Ashish Dhawan as funding anti-government propaganda sites like the Wire.in.

Another university to face governmental apathy is KREA University( which is yet to start operations) whose board includes former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan,  a critic of the government.

With Azim Premji University, it is about Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives Limited, tech giant Wipro’s philanthropic arm, which has been funding The Wire via a public charitable trust.

IB has made adverse remarks on three among the nine private universities.
