No decision yet on new CBI Director, selection panel to meet Again

New Delhi: No decision has yet been made on the next director of CBI even as the selection committee led by PM met here.

Officials privy to the top circle say that another meeting of the panel will soon be held.

“A list of eligible officers along with their dossiers was shared with the panel members. But no decision has been taken so far,” an official was quoted as saying.

The meeting, held at the prime minister’s official residence, had in attendance Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.

The post of the CBI chief has been lying vacant since January 10 after Alok Verma was sacked barely two days after the Supreme Court held his ouster to be illegal.

Post his removal, Verma was named as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guards – a less significant portfolio.

Declining the offer, he wrote to the government saying he should be considered as deemed superannuated.
