CPM calls for voting Congress to defeat BJP in Chhattisgarh

New Delhi: In order to prevent the BJP from coming to power in Chhattisgarh, the CPM has announced its support for the Congress.

CPM Politburo member Surya Kant Mishra on Monday asked the party workers to vote for the Congress in the forthcoming assembly elections.

Mishra pointed out that only three seats in Chhattisgarh are contested by CPM candidates.  In the remaining constituencies, the  party workers should vote for Congress candidates because this is the only option against the "communal and anti-people" BJP.

Addressing a protest rally outside the CBI office here, he said, "We are contesting in three seats in Chhattisgarh. In these seats, we have to work hard to defeat communal BJP."

He also exhorted workers to defeat Trinamool Congress,  as Trinamool and BJP are "two sides of the same coin."

For the 90 seats of Chhattisgarh elections will be held in two phases. The first phase will be held on November 12 and the second phase will be held on November 20.

Voting will be held on November 12 in the state's Naxal-affected 12 Assembly constituencies, while 78 seats will go to polls on November 20.

Counting of votes will take place on December 11.
