Ahmadabad: Exodus of north Indian workers in Gujarat subsided with no new attacks on them reported since Monday.
“The situation is absolutely under control” said a senior government official, indicating the positive results of measures initiated by the government to tackle the crisis.
Earlier, local administration held meetings with representatives of migrant workers and industry representatives in Gandhinagar, Vadodara, Mehana, and other districts.
The police officials present at the meetings assured migrants of safety.
10 people have been arrested on charges of spreading hate message to incite violence against migrant workers in the state, amounting the total arrest to 35 on same charges.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat State Human Rights Commission (GSHRC) issued notices on Wednesday to Chief Secretary J.N. Singh and Director-General of Police Shivanand Jha, seeking reports on the attacks and exodus of Hindi-speaking migrant workers, The Hindu reported.
