New Delhi: Over 15,000 farmers from interior India will pour into the streets of New Delhi today, demanding a special three-week joint session of Parliament to discuss the agrarian crisis.
The two-day protest will see farmers gathering at Ramlila Maidan in Central Delhi and marching to Parliament Street.
The Kisan Mukti March would be the second major farmers’ agitation in Delhi. The organisers expect the total turn-out between 12,000 and 15,000 on Thursday and about 40,000 would march Parliament Street on Friday.
The Delhi government reportedly has arranged around 260 mobile toilets, drinking water tankers and ambulances for the protesters.
Farmers will enter Delhi at 5 pm and will release a charter of demands on Friday at Parliament Street.
The march is organised by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC), an umbrella body of about 200 farmer organisations from across the country.
The march is a reminiscent of another farmers’ protest with over 35,000 farmers from across Maharashtra marching from Nashik to Mumbai in March this year.
