Sitaram Yechury re-elected as CPI(M) general secretary

Hyderabad: The CPI(M) today unanimously elected Sitaram Yechury as its general secretary at its 22nd party congress here.

His election to the post for the second time was approved by the Left party's newly-elected 95-member central committee.

The 65-year-old leader had taken over as general secretary of the CPI(M) from Prakash Karat in the 21st party congress, which was held in Visakhapatnam, in 2015.

This for the second consecutive time Yechury is becoming the General Secretary. 
 
The new Central Committee will have 20 new faces. A 17-member politburo including S Ramachandra Pillai was also elected.
 
VS Achuthanandan and Paloli Mohammad Kutty will contines as invitees to the Central Committee. M.V Govindan and K Radhakrishnan from Kerala have been elected to the committee. However, PK Gurudasan is not included.
