Naroda Patiya case: Gujarat HC acquits Maya Kodnani

Ahmedabad: A division bench of Gujarat High Court on Friday acquitted former BJP minister Maya Kodnani in the Naroda Patya massacre case. However, it upheld the conviction of Babu Bajrangi.

A trial court had convicted Maya Kodnani and sentenced to life imprisonment for inciting a mob to do revenge for the deaths of kar sevaks killed in the Godhra train carnage in 2002.

The court on Friday was hearing appeal petitions moved by the convicts, the supreme court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the families of the victims of the riots.

The court found both Babu Bajrangi and Suresh Langado guilty. Kodnani's personal assistant, Kirpal Sing Chabda, who was convicted by the trial court was also acquitted.
