New Delhi: Associated Journals Limited, which published National Herald newspaper, on Monday also launched the beta version of its English website.
“Associated Journals Limited (AJL), a company founded in 1937 by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, has launched the beta version of its English Website – www.nationalheraldindia.com today,” said a press release issued by the Congress.
The Congress party announced in August that the National Herald (English) and Navjivan (Hindi) would resume publication. Both the newspapers had ceased publication in 2008.
“In keeping with changing times, the newspaper group resumes phased publication as a multi-media outlet with a strong digital presence.
“The digital website will follow the same editorial vision and principles as that of our founder, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru,” the release said.
“It remains committed to furthering the values… that of building a modern, democratic, just, equitable, liberal and socially harmonious nation, free of sectarian strife,” the release added.
The National Herald was launched in 1938 as a daily newspaper as the vanguard of the Indian freedom movement by Nehru.
A Delhi court in August had issued notice to the Congress President Sonia Gandhi and her son and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case on a plea filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.
Swamy had sought the balance sheet of 2010-2011 of the party and other documents related to the company, AJL, in the case.
Swamy had earlier filed a complaint about “cheating” in the acquisition of AJL by Young India — “a firm in which Sonia and Rahul Gandhi each own a 38 per cent stake”.
