Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Mohal Lal resigned as the President of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists ( AMMA) on Tuesday in the wake of controversies following the Hema Committee report that went into the allegations of sexual abuse of women in Kerala'a film industry and the insecurity felt by scores of female actors.
Actor Siddique had earlier resigned from the post of General Secretary.
Taking the moral responsibility of allegations, 17 executive committee members of the organization decided to resign in an online meeting.
It is reported that an ad-hoc committee will come into existence soon and the executive committee will continue for the time being. A general meeting will be held to elect a new committee within two months, which will take over the organization, according to reports.
The executive committee will continue in order to coordinate the office work alongside distributing the assistance that the organistaion is handing out to members every month and ensuring the medical assistance to members.
Mohan Lal in his press note expressed the hope of a new leadership taking over to strengthen and purge the organization and he thanked ‘everybody for criticising and correcting’.
