UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks in Abu Dhabi on regional security developments amid ongoing military escalation and their impact on global trade and navigation.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Zelenskyy during his working visit, noting the meeting reflects the strength of relations between the two countries.
The discussions covered attacks targeting the UAE and other countries in the region, including strikes on civilians and infrastructure. Zelenskyy condemned the incidents, describing them as violations of sovereignty, international law and the UN Charter.
Sheikh Mohamed said the UAE is addressing the situation with restraint while remaining committed to defending its sovereignty. He added that the country is prepared to confront threats and retains the right to self-defence under international law.
Both sides also reviewed cooperation under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and reaffirmed their commitment to its objectives.
Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the UAE’s support for efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, along with ministers and other officials.
Zelenskyy was received upon arrival in the UAE by Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail bin Mohamed Al Mazrouei and other officials.
