Dubai: Two Asian women tragically lost their lives in Sharjah due to suffocation caused by carbon monoxide poisoning inside their vehicle. The incident occurred during the historic rains in the UAE, leading to flooding and road closures in the Emirates.
Last Tuesday, the vehicle travelled by the women was trapped in traffic on Al Ittihad Street, the highway between Dubai and Sharjah, due to flooding caused by heavy rains. As the vehicle was stuck in water pools, the women were unable to exit the vehicle safely.
While two men accompanying them left the vehicle to seek help, the women remained inside with the air conditioning running and the windows closed. Upon the men's return, they found the two women unconscious, prompting them to alert the authorities. Despite efforts to rescue them, both women were declared deceased upon arrival at Al Qassimi Hospital.
Sharjah Police received a distress call after it became impossible for the National Ambulance to reach those women. Police patrols were immediately dispatched to the location.
A forensic examination confirmed that the cause of death was the inhalation of a significant amount of toxic carbon monoxide gas accumulated inside the vehicle over time.
Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, expressed condolences for the unfortunate incident and urged the public to adhere to safety guidelines during unstable weather conditions. He emphasized the importance of staying indoors and avoiding unnecessary travel to prevent similar tragedies.
