Dubai: The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has issued a warning against promoting electronic smoking products as safer alternatives to traditional cigarettes, citing a lack of scientific evidence.
Marking World No-Tobacco Day on May 31, MoHAP urged smokers to quit, highlighting the severe health risks associated with smoking, including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes and mental health issues. The Ministry has developed a comprehensive strategy to reduce tobacco use and promote a smoke-free environment, aligning with national health indicators.
The UAE, a member of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control since 2005, continues to lead in tobacco control efforts.
The Ministry has enacted legislation to support antismoking measures and stressed the enforcement of Tobacco Control Law No. 15 of 2009 for all tobacco products, including electronic ones.
MoHAP also commits to organizing awareness campaigns to educate the public on the dangers of smoking.
