UAE Foreign Minister meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York

At the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, Secretary-General António Guterres met with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to discuss strengthening cooperation between the UAE and the UN, particularly in humanitarian and developmental fields.

The meeting covered a range of topics central to the recent UN General Assembly session in New York, including the outcomes of the Summit of the Future, a critical gathering aimed at addressing pressing global issues. Both leaders recognized the summit's role in enhancing multilateral efforts to confront key global challenges, emphasizing the need for greater international collaboration.

One of the focal points of the discussion was the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Sheikh Abdullah and Guterres exchanged views on the latest regional and international developments, particularly in the Middle East and their impact on global peace and security. They emphasized the importance of strengthening international responses to alleviate suffering and maintain peace in conflict-affected areas.

Sheikh Abdullah reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to deepening its cooperation with the UN and its various programs, focusing on sustainable development and the adoption of innovative, flexible and effective solutions to tackle global issues. He highlighted the UAE's dedication to partnering with the UN to support development pathways in communities facing economic and social challenges.

The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, including Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, and Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN. Both sides expressed optimism for continued collaboration in addressing humanitarian crises, enhancing development efforts and contributing to global peace initiatives.
