Dubai: Tenants facing property damage in Dubai and Sharjah, after last week’s rain, are receiving support from landlords and developers. The record-breaking rains led to water accumulation in various areas, prompting a swift response from both government and private entities.
Major developers in Dubai, including Emaar Properties, MAG, Damac Properties, Nakheel, Dubai Holding, Union Properties and Dubai Investment Park, have stepped forward to offer complimentary services to affected tenants. This initiative covers a wide range of locations, including Business Bay, Downtown, Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR), Palm Jumeirah and others.
Under legal provisions, landlords are obligated to undertake property maintenance unless specified otherwise in the tenancy contract. Accordingly, landlords are expected to repair damages resulting from the recent weather events.
In Sharjah, master developer Arada has announced significant support measures for affected individuals. Teaming up with the Sharjah Social Services Department, Arada is providing housing for up to 3,000 people affected by the flooding. Priority is given to vulnerable groups, particularly children, the elderly and individuals with special needs. The Nest complex in Aljada serves as the relocation site, with the first families moving in on April 22, in a staged process.
The recent rains, described as the highest in 75 years, caused widespread flooding across Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman. Consequently, many tenants experienced disruptions in essential services such as electricity and water.
