The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has declared July 7 a paid holiday for private sector employees in observance of the Hijri New Year. This date corresponds to Muharram 1 on the Islamic calendar, marking the start of the new Hijri year 1446 AH.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming that the holiday will fall on a Sunday. Similar announcements have been made in Oman, where both public and private sector employees will enjoy a holiday on July 7, resulting in a long weekend for many.
In the UAE, residents still have a few public holidays left before the end of the year. These include a holiday for the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)'s birthday and a long weekend for National Day, the year's last official holiday. According to the 2024 holiday list released by the UAE Cabinet, these public holidays are in addition to the 30 annual leave days that employees are entitled to each year.
