Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the construction of 20 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders, part of a broader plan to build 40 such facilities across the Emirate. This initiative aims to improve road safety, enhance the well-being of riders and minimise the risk of road incidents. These rest areas provide comfortable spaces for riders to wait for new orders, boosting their happiness and encouraging compliance with traffic laws.
RTA’s Director-General, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, emphasized the agency's commitment to road safety.
"RTA is committed to providing a safe and comfortable environment for delivery drivers. This initiative aims to enhance traffic safety for all road users and achieve the targeted indicators of the Dubai Traffic Safety Strategy with its ‘Zero Fatalities’ vision to rank Dubai the best in the world in terms of traffic safety," said Al Tayer.
The rest area locations were selected based on operational data and an analysis of high-demand delivery zones, with areas like Al Barsha Heights, Business Bay and Dubai Marina among the chosen locations. These rest areas are designed to minimize sunlight, provide air conditioning and offer amenities such as snack vending machines, water dispensers and phone charging stations. Each facility can accommodate up to 10 riders, with adequate parking for motorcycles.
RTA has also introduced the Delivery Service Excellence Award, which recognizes top-performing companies and drivers in the sector. The award promotes traffic safety, adherence to regulations and service quality enhancement, with rigorous selection criteria for both companies and drivers.
