Sharjah has opened a new mosque in Al Dhaid with capacity for more than 1,300 worshippers, to mark Ramadan 2026.
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated Al Nasr Mosque on Tuesday evening after the UAE’s moon-sighting committee announced Wednesday as the first day of the holy month.
The mosque spans 7,800 square metres in the Jabal Omar area and combines traditional Islamic architectural elements with contemporary design features. It includes a spherical glass dome designed to reflect light and a 38-metre minaret.
Facilities comprise a main prayer hall accommodating 470 worshippers, an external courtyard for 140 and an outdoor prayer area for 570. A separate women’s prayer hall can host 145 worshippers, bringing total capacity to 1,325.
During the visit, Sheikh Sultan performed the Maghrib prayer, held at sunset to mark the end of the daily fast in Ramadan.
The opening forms part of a wider program in the emirate to build and renovate mosques to meet community needs. Last year, Sharjah opened 20 new mosques ahead of Ramadan, providing space for more than 2,000 worshippers.
