Kasaragod: A centuries-old Hindu shrine in Kerala’s northernmost district hosted a community Iftar for local Muslims, highlighting interfaith harmony.
The Sree Poobanam Kuzhi Temple at Thachangad opened its courtyard on Thursday for the Iftar as part of the “Brahmakalashotsavam” festival, which marks the reconsecration of the temple deities.
Visuals shared on social media and television showed large numbers of Muslim men, wearing traditional white caps, seated at neatly arranged tables in the decorated courtyard, breaking their fast with dates and other delicacies.
Temple authorities said the Iftar was organised as many local Muslim residents were unable to attend the recent “annadanam” (community feast) due to ongoing Ramadan fasting.
“This shrine and its festivals are a part of our life and childhood. We used to gather here every day after school, so these festivities are familiar to us,” a local Muslim participant said.
The event was organised under the aegis of the Poobanam UAE Committee, which comprises local expatriates.
