Dubai: The Indian Consulate in Dubai is reintroducing its 'open house' forum to address the grievances of the Indian expatriate community residing in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. This initiative aims to provide a platform for residents to voice their concerns directly to consulate officials.
The Consul General of India, along with consulate officials, will be available to address grievances on Saturday, May 4, from 11am to 1pm. The event, held at the consulate's auditorium, welcomes Indian nationals without the need for prior registration, allowing for direct walk-ins.
According to a spokesperson for the mission, this 'open house' marks a significant return to community engagement efforts. Consul General Satish Kumar Sivan has emphasized the importance of hosting such forums regularly, indicating a commitment to addressing the needs of Indian nationals residing in the region.
The 'open house' was a regular occurrence at the Indian Consulate in the past but was discontinued due to officials' availability during weekdays to address community issues. However, in 2018, former Consul General Vipul reintroduced the forum to accommodate Indian workers who couldn't visit the consulate on working days. The monthly event was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Aman Puri, Vipul's successor, implemented a 365-day work policy for the consulate in August 2021. This policy ensures that consulate officers are available for emergency services from 8 am to 10 am on weekends and public holidays, enhancing accessibility for community members.
With an estimated 3.5 million Indians residing in the UAE, the majority of whom live in Dubai and the Northern Emirates falling under the Indian Consulate's jurisdiction, the 'open house' serves as a crucial platform for addressing the needs and concerns of the expatriate community.
