Dubai: The Indian Consulate in Dubai launched a new insurance plan, aiming to provide financial security to UAE employees and their families. Collaborating with two prominent insurance companies in the UAE, the consulate revealed details of the plan, promising compensations ranging from Dh35,000 to Dh75,000 in the event of the insured's demise due to natural or accidental causes.
The insurance primarily targets blue-collar workers and extends its benefits to employees aged 18 to 70, with remarkably low annual premiums ranging from Dh37 to Dh72. This initiative comes in response to a glaring gap in existing insurance policies, particularly concerning the coverage of natural deaths among Indian blue-collar workers in the UAE.
With Indians comprising a significant portion of the migrant workforce, the consulate recorded a staggering 1,750 death cases in 2022 alone, predominantly among workers. This alarming statistic raises the urgent need for a more comprehensive insurance solution, leading to the conceptualization and launch of the "Life Protection Plan" (LPP).
Discussions were made between major employers of Indian workers and insurance providers, including Gargash Insurance Services LLC and Orient Insurance PJSC, resulting in the consensus on the LPP. The plan offers a wide range of benefits such as 24-hour worldwide coverage, disability due to accidents and repatriation expenses, all at minimal annual premiums.
The introduction of the LPP marks a significant milestone in enhancing the welfare of the Indian community, particularly the blue-collar segment, in the UAE. The plan is scheduled to take effect from March 1, 2024, leading a pivotal step towards ensuring financial stability for the families of insured employees.
By mitigating the gap in insurance coverage, the Indian Consulate addresses the importance of safeguarding the interests of the migrant workforce, who are an integral component of the UAE's economic landscape. The initiative elevates the standard of employee welfare and fosters a secure and supportive environment for workers and their families alike.
