Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), under the leadership of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, achieved a remarkable milestone in improving electricity and water production efficiency. In 2023, DEWA recorded 41.73% increase in efficiency compared to 2006, resulting in substantial reductions in carbon dioxide emissions.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted the authority's commitment to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, emphasizing Dubai's position as a global hub for clean energy and a green economy.
“We place great emphasis on enhancing the efficiency of energy and water production through innovation and continuous upgrades to our production plants, as well as the deployment of cutting-edge technologies across all our facilities and projects”, said Al Tayer.
Nasser Lootah, Executive Vice President of Generation (Power & Water) at DEWA, elaborated on the advanced methodologies employed by DEWA. The co-generation technology utilized harnesses waste heat from gas turbines, maximizing electricity generation while providing thermal energy for water desalination. DEWA's hybrid desalination system integrates various technologies, ensuring optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness throughout the plant's lifecycle.
DEWA remains dedicated to continuous improvement, regularly developing operation and maintenance modes to enhance efficiency further. Collaborations with industry leaders for gas turbine upgrades demonstrate DEWA's commitment to excellence, ensuring enhanced performance and reliability.
