Dubai: Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to enhance the city's cycling infrastructure with a new multi-use track connecting Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills via Hessa Street. This initiative aims to promote eco-friendly modes of transportation while improving connectivity for residents and visitors alike.
The 13.5 km track, tailored for bicycles, scooters and pedestrians, features two bridges crossing key thoroughfares, Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. With a width of 4.5 meters, the track comprises separate lanes for cyclists/scooter riders and pedestrians, catering to a diverse range of users.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that this project is part of the Hessa Street Improvement Project. He emphasized the track's role in facilitating first and last-mile trips, connecting with the Dubai Internet City Metro Station and other hotspots in the vicinity, with an estimated capacity of 5,200 users per hour.
The Hessa Street Improvement Project, spanning 4.5 km, includes upgrades to major intersections along Hessa Street, doubling its capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.
Noteworthy features of the new track include two uniquely designed bridges, each spanning over 500 meters and featuring separate lanes for cyclists/scooter riders and pedestrians. The engineering design of these bridges is inspired by the surrounding environments, embodying themes of connectivity and tranquillity.
The first bridge, crossing Sheikh Zayed Road, has an open design enhancing visibility, while the second bridge over Al Khail Road replicates the path of sunlight, offering a peaceful escape from street noise.
