Dubai RTA opens registration for self-driving transport challenge, announces $3M prize

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened registration for the 4th Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2025, offering the winner a $3 million prize. The challenge focuses on integrating multiple transportation systems, requiring participants to incorporate at least two modes of transport: autonomous taxis, shuttles, buses, drones, marine, logistics, or aviation.

All proposed autonomous modes must meet at least SAE Level 3 of autonomy. This initiative is part of RTA's strategy to support the government's goal of transforming 25% of all mobility trips in Dubai into self-driving trips by 2030, as Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced.

Participants can register as an association of companies or a single entity integrating multiple autonomous systems. Leading companies with expertise in self-driving transport and integrated mobility systems are invited to participate.

Registration is available through the official website: https://sdchallenge.awardsplatform.com

Finalists will be announced in October 2024 and the winning company will be revealed in September 2025 during the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, with a $3 million prize awarded to the winner.
