Dubai Police have seized a car and fined its driver after a video showed a near-collision with a delivery rider.
The footage, shared on social media, captured a black Mazda swerving sharply at an interchange, narrowly missing a delivery rider who was turning right to take an exit. The driver appeared to cut across and almost knock down the rider.
“The driver was reckless and swerved suddenly on the road in a chaotic scene violating the road safety and manners”, Dubai Police said in a statement on Friday.
“Police patrols identified the location and caught the driver. His vehicle was impounded and he will face legal action".
According to traffic regulations, motorists who drive recklessly and endanger others face a Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points and vehicle impoundment for 60 days.
Details about the location of the incident and the driver’s identity were not disclosed.
“We won’t stand still in front of any reckless behaviour on the road. Our patrols and smart systems work around the clock to catch such practices”, Dubai Police said.
“Driving recklessly is not bravery or skill. It is carelessness that can cost lives".
Authorities urged the public to report dangerous driving incidents to help maintain road safety.
