Dubai Municipality intensifies measures to control mosquitoes in parks and markets

Dubai: With an uptick in mosquito sightings post-April 16 downpours, the UAE is ramping up its mosquito control measures, especially in Dubai, to combat pest infestation.

Dubai Municipality adopts chemical control methods and awareness campaigns to tackle the surge in mosquitoes. Efforts concentrated in parks, markets, drainage areas, and residential, commercial and industrial zones.

The major aim behind the initiative is to safeguard public health, ensure proactive community protection and maintain a disease-free environment.

Extensive operations post-rainstorm targeted 102 water collection sites and over 75,000 drainage outlets. The initiative includes using bacterial capsules for larval control, spray and smoke pesticides for adult mosquitoes and strategically placed mosquito traps.

The employment of eco-friendly pesticides is aligned with carefully designed action plans and control strategies. Guidelines are issued to approved contracting companies for the implementation. Residents are urged to monitor water leakage and eliminate stagnant water.
