Dubai: Dubai International Airport (DXB) faced a temporary suspension of operations and flight cancellations on Tuesday due to adverse weather conditions. Heavy rain and flooding prompted significant disruptions, affecting both inbound and outbound flights.
According to Dubai Airports, operations at DXB were temporarily halted for 25 minutes due to the intense storm. Since then, the airport has resumed operations but is still experiencing disruptions. As of early morning, 21 outbound and 24 inbound flights have been cancelled, with three flights diverted to neighbouring airports.
Videos circulated on social media platforms showed flooded runways, exacerbating the challenges faced by airport authorities. Access roads leading to the airport were also affected by major flooding, further complicating travel arrangements.
Response teams have been activated, and Dubai Airports is working closely with airlines and service partners to restore normal operations as soon as possible. Passengers are urged to check with their airlines for the latest flight information and to allow extra travel time to the airport.
Flydubai has also cancelled some flights and is experiencing delays. The airline is coordinating with airport authorities to minimize disruptions and advises passengers to check online for updates and arrive at the airport well in advance of their departure time.
Etihad Airways has issued advisories due to potential adverse weather in Abu Dhabi. Guests are encouraged to check the Etihad website for flight updates and to allow extra travel time.
The safety and comfort of passengers remain the top priority for airlines and efforts are underway to assist affected travellers and minimize inconvenience.
