The Arab Youth Media Creativity Summit 2025 concluded yesterday with the adoption of a UAE-led initiative to tackle online hostility.
The initiative was proposed by the UAE Journalists Association and focuses on curbing cyberbullying and organised smear campaigns. It aims to discourage users from engaging with abusive content online.
The campaign was launched by Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and Chairman of the UAE Media Council. It urges social media users to block offenders instead of responding or spreading negative content.
The initiative was first introduced at the national level in the UAE, where it was implemented successfully. It has now been expanded to a regional scale.
Fadheela Al Muaini, President of the UAE Journalists Association, presented the initiative during the summit. It received wide support from participants and was formally endorsed.
