1,244 Dubai flights cancelled over 2 days, DXB partially resumes arrival at T1

Dubai: Dubai International Airport (DXB) faced significant operational disruptions following severe weather conditions that led to runway flooding. A total of 1,244 flights were cancelled and 41 were diverted until Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson from Dubai Airports.

Dubai Airports swiftly responded to the crisis by collaborating with strategic partners and local authorities to mitigate the impact and expedite the recovery of normal operations within the next 24 hours.

Passengers were advised against visiting Terminal 1 unless they had received confirmation from their airline regarding their flight departure. Access to Terminal 1 was strictly limited to passengers with confirmed departures, with no rebooking facilities available at the terminal.

Despite the challenges, the airport managed to resume partial operations at Terminal 1 on Thursday morning, aiming to restore normalcy within 24 hours.

Dubai International (DXB) resumed inbound flights of international airlines operating out of Terminal 1. However, flights continued to face delays and disruptions due to the recent unprecedented weather in the UAE.

Emirates airline extended the suspension of check-in for passengers departing from DXB due to operational challenges. Passengers were urged to come to the airport only if they had a confirmed flight booking.

Several foreign airlines, including EgyptAir and SriLankan Airlines, were forced to temporarily suspend flights until the situation improved at the flooded runway, adding to the operational challenges.

The UAE experienced its heaviest rain in 75 years, causing flooding across many residential districts and prompting the government to encourage remote work for employees. Submerged roads made it difficult for residents to travel by vehicle.

Despite the unprecedented weather conditions, Dubai International Airport and airlines have been working tirelessly to mitigate disruptions and restore normal operations. With collaborative efforts and strategic planning, they aim to overcome the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions.
