Riyadh: Saudi ministers convening in Riyadh emphasized the imperative for sanctions against Israel amid the ongoing war on Gaza, reported the Saudi Press Agency on Sunday. Chaired by Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, the meeting, comprising representatives from a joint group formed by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Arab League, addressed the Gaza situation.
Key outcomes include calls for international legal mechanisms to hold Israeli officials accountable and decisive action against settler terrorism. Representatives from Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Palestine, Qatar and the OIC advocated halting arms exports in response to Israeli violations of international law in Gaza and the West Bank.
The meeting staunchly affirmed Gaza's integral status within occupied Palestinian territory, rejecting any attempts at displacement or military operations in Rafah. Concerns were raised about repression faced by demonstrators in Western nations advocating for Gaza and condemning Israeli actions.
Efforts to cease hostilities in Gaza, prioritize civilian safety and ensure consistent humanitarian aid delivery were highlighted. Commitments were made to pursue international recognition of an independent Palestinian state, endorsing a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as its capital within 1967 borders, in line with relevant resolutions.
