Saudi faces attack: Defence forces successfully down missiles, drones

Riyadh: Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces successfully intercepted a series of missiles and drones targeting key locations in the country, including the Amir Sultan Airbase in Al-Kharj, the Ministry of Defense announced on Friday.

According to Defense Ministry spokesman Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, the Saudi Defense Forces shot down four ballistic and cruise missiles along with six drones that were launched toward the airbase.

Al-Maliki said air defence units destroyed three ballistic missiles in the sky before they could reach Amir Sultan Airbase. In addition, a cruise missile aimed at Al-Kharj was also intercepted and neutralised.

The spokesman said the Ministry of Defense also intercepted multiple drones across different regions. Three drones were shot down in the eastern part of the Riyadh region, while another was destroyed in the northeastern part of the region. One drone was intercepted in the Eastern Province and another in the eastern part of Al-Kharj Governorate.

Al-Maliki also provided details of interceptions carried out the previous day. He said Saudi air defence forces had destroyed three cruise missiles and three drones in the Al-Kharj region on Thursday. Another drone was also shot down east of Al-Jawf on the same day.

Brigadier General Al-Maliki said the successive successful interceptions demonstrate that Saudi Arabia’s air defence systems are fully prepared to confront increasing threats and protect the country’s strategic facilities.
