In a historic move towards modernization and architectural innovation, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia unveiled the world's first mosque constructed using 3D printing technology within the Al-Jawhara suburb project in Jeddah Governorate.
The structure, dedicated to the memory of the late businessman Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly, stands as a testament to Saudi Vision 2030's commitment to diversification and non-oil production.
Constructed over 5,600 square meters, the mosque named after the visionary late businessman took merely six months to complete, thanks to the cutting-edge technology provided by Guanli 3D printers, the world's leading manufacturer in 3D printing.
Wajanat Muhammad Abdel Wahed, the driving force behind this ground-breaking initiative and wife of the late Sharbatly, expressed her pride in contributing to the introduction of modern technology in the Kingdom.
"As a Saudi businesswoman, I wanted to contribute to introducing this modern technology to the Kingdom, positioning it among the first countries to utilize it," remarked Wajanat. "The idea materialized into constructing a mosque dedicated to the memory of my late husband, subsequently becoming the world's first mosque built with 3D printing technology."
Wajanat highlighted the significant milestone achieved in technology and contemporary construction, signalling a move towards architectural innovation and global sustainable building practices.
The construction of the mosque received private sector stimulus support, emphasizing the promotion of modern construction through advanced technologies and industrial development.
"I dedicate the reward of building the first mosque in the world using 3D printing technology to my husband, Mr. Abdulaziz Abdullah Sharbatly. I ask God to grant him benefit to the Kingdom and enable him to become a leader in line with #Saudi_Vision_2030," Wajanat expressed in a heartfelt message on Thursday, March 7.
3D printing technology, which creates tangible objects from 3D digital models obtained through scanners or computer programs, showcases the Kingdom's commitment to future construction and architectural innovation.
This achievement aligns seamlessly with Vision 2030's ambitious goals of promoting local content, diversification, and embracing cutting-edge technologies in pursuit of a sustainable and advanced future for Saudi Arabia.
