The 11th edition of the Saudi Film Festival is set to take place from April 17 to 24 at the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) in Dhahran. Organized by the Cinema Association in partnership with Ithra and supported by the Ministry of Culture’s Film Commission, the festival will feature screenings, educational events and networking opportunities for filmmakers and enthusiasts.

This year’s theme, “Cinema of Identity,” will explore how films reflect and shape individual, national and cultural identities. The festival will showcase a diverse selection of local and international films, examining the influences of heritage, urban environments and personal experiences on identity.

A key highlight of the festival will be a tribute to veteran Saudi actor Ibrahim Al-Hasawi, whose career spans over three decades. Al-Hasawi has played a pivotal role in Saudi entertainment, contributing to theater, television and film. His work in productions such as "Tash Ma Tash", "Bayni Wa Baynak", and "Hajjan" has cemented his influence in the industry. The festival will honor his contributions to Saudi cinema and his role in shaping the country’s film industry.

Expanding its international reach, the festival will also present a special program dedicated to Japanese cinema, featuring a selection of independent films. This initiative aims to foster cross-cultural dialogue and introduce Saudi audiences to Japan’s rich cinematic traditions.

Beyond film screenings, the festival will offer a range of industry-focused activities, including panel discussions with experts on the future of Saudi cinema and the evolving role of identity in filmmaking. Masterclasses led by seasoned professionals will cover directing, cinematography, and scriptwriting, while filmmakers will have opportunities for one-on-one consultations, private pitching sessions and investor meetings.

Book signings and networking events will further enrich the experience, allowing attendees to engage with filmmakers and authors contributing to the festival.

With its diverse program and emphasis on identity in cinema, the 11th Saudi Film Festival is poised to be a significant cultural event, celebrating local talent while fostering international exchange in the world of filmmaking.
