'Riyadh Season 2024' to kick off with epic showdown featuring boxing stars on October 12

Riyadh: Turki bin Abdulmohsen Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), announced the highly anticipated boxing fight at the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Riyadh Season 2024.

Boxing fans from around the world are eagerly awaiting this major event titled “IV CROWN SHOWDOWN", which will take place in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on October 12th. This event will mark the beginning of a season filled with various entertainment activities, placing Riyadh at the forefront of the global entertainment scene.

The “IV CROWN SHOWDOWN” will be a special occasion for boxing fans, as it will feature a clash between two light heavyweight giants -  Russia’s Artur Beterbiev, known for his devastating power and a record filled with knockout victories, and his fellow countryman Dmitry Bivol, who is considered one of the most tactical and intelligent fighters in this weight class. This matchup is a battle to establish supremacy in the light heavyweight division on a global scale.

Alongside this main event, the “IV CROWN SHOWDOWN” will feature a series of thrilling bouts, showcasing a lineup of world-class champions across various weight divisions. In the super featherweight (junior lightweight) category, American Shakur Stevenson will face Welshman Joe Cordina. In the middleweight division, Britain’s Chris Eubank Jr., with 18 knockout victories, will challenge Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta in what promises to be an exciting clash.

In the heavyweight division, the audience will witness an all-British showdown between Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke, with both fighters eager to prove their worth in the Riyadh ring. Meanwhile, in the cruiserweight division, Australian Jai Opetaia, who previously secured a knockout victory in the “Ring of Fire” bout last December, will face off against Britain’s Jack Massey in a highly anticipated and competitive fight.

In the other bouts, British silver medalist from the 2020 Olympics, Ben Whittaker, will compete against fellow Brit Liam Cameron in the light heavyweight division. Additionally, Riyadh Season will host its first-ever women’s boxing fight, as Australia’s Skye Nicolson takes on Britain’s Raven Chapman in a featherweight bout.

The audience will also witness a significant and special bout between Saudi boxer Mohammed Alakel and Mexico’s Jesus Gonzalez in the welterweight division, adding a distinctive and national flavor to this global event.
