Riyadh: Saudi Arabia issues stern warning to both visitors and residents, cautioning against participating in the upcoming Hajj season without obtaining the necessary permits. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Passports, introduce stringent penalties to ensure the smooth operation of the Hajj pilgrimage and deter potential violations.
Individuals found to be violating Hajj regulations by performing the pilgrimage without the required permits will face a hefty fine of 50,000 Saudi riyals. Those caught transporting pilgrims without proper permits will also be subject to a fine of up to SR 50,000. Expatriates found guilty of such violations will face a six-month imprisonment followed by deportation from Saudi Arabia, with a 10-year ban on reentry. The violators will be publicly discredited through media channels.
The Saudi Public Prosecution issued a separate warning against engaging in unauthorized fundraising activities related to the upcoming Hajj season. Violators involved in unauthorized fundraising will face severe penalties, including a prison sentence of up to 7 years or a fine of up to SR 5 million or possibly both.
On its official X account, the Public Prosecution emphasized that collecting donations without a permit from the competent authority is strictly forbidden and constitutes a major crime. Stringent measures will be taken against any attempts to deceive or mislead for financial gains under the Anti-Financial Fraud and Breach of Trust Law.
The Anti-Financial Fraud and Breach of Trust Law specifically targets fraudulent activities, including deception, lying or creating false impressions aimed at unlawfully acquiring funds. The authorities underscored the seriousness of these measures to safeguard the sanctity and integrity of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Hajj, one of the five pillars of Islam, is a religious duty that must be carried out by all adult Muslims who are physically and financially capable of undertaking the journey at least once in their lifetime. With the warnings and penalties in place, Saudi Arabia aims to ensure a smooth and regulated Hajj season, maintaining the sanctity of this significant religious event.
