Dubai municipality warns owners to clear neglected vehicles

The Dubai Municipality has announced a crackdown on neglected vehicles across nine registration and testing centres in the Emirate. Owners have been warned to clear their vehicles soon or face confiscation.

The campaign targets vehicles abandoned at Warsan, Qusais, Shamil Muhaisnah, Wasel Nadd Al Hammar, Tamam, Al Awir Motor Show, Al Barsha, Al Mumayaz and Wasel Al Jadaf centres. So far, 68 vehicle clearance alerts, 38 posters and 30 text messages have been issued.

Authorities have reported a 95% response rate to the campaign. Neglected vehicles are first issued a warning, giving owners three to 15 days to clear them, depending on the location and condition of the vehicle. If the vehicle is Dubai-registered, an SMS is sent to the owner. Vehicles not cleared within the specified period are towed to the impoundment yard in Al Awir. Owners can retrieve their vehicles by contacting the municipality before they are auctioned.

Saeed Safar, director of the Waste Operations Department, stated that a monitoring team, including members from the Roads and Transport Authority and a private company, was formed to track and seize discarded vehicles. Residents are reminded to find suitable places for their vehicles, especially if they are travelling.
