Qatar condemns LNG tanker attack; warns of threat to global energy
Doha: Qatar has strongly condemned an attack on its liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Al Mayeda in the Arabian Gulf, warning that such actions threaten maritime security and global energy supplies, according to reports.
The vessel, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company (Nakilat), was struck by unidentified objects while sailing through the Arabian Gulf on Friday evening, October 30, 2026.
No crew members were injured, and no environmental impact was reported. The vessel remains safe and operational while the company assesses the impact of the incident, Nakilat said in a statement published on the Qatar Stock Exchange.
In a statement on Sunday, Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the attack as a dangerous act threatening maritime navigation and the security of global energy supplies. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
The ministry said Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures, in accordance with international law and the UN Charter, to protect its assets and national interests and ensure the safety of its vessels and crews.
It warned that attacks on energy carriers could have serious consequences for regional security and the global economy, and pose significant risks to the marine environment and the water security of countries in the region.
