Madina among world's healthiest cities: WHO

World Health Organization (WHO) has acknowledged Madina Munawara, the holy city of Saudi Arabia as among the world's healthiest cities. The WHO team that visited the holy city said that it met all the global standards required to be a healthy city.

Madina has now become the first city with a population of more than 2 million to be recognized under WHO's healthy cities program.

According to Arab News, a total of 22 government, community, charity and volunteer agencies helped prepare for the WHO accreditation.

"The criteria included meeting goals set by the Madinah Region Strategy Project and the launch of a "Humanizing Cities" program," The Arab News report read.

"A healthy city is one that continually creates and enhances those physical and social environments and expands those community resources that allow individuals to support each other mutually in carrying out all the functions of life and developing to their maximum potential," according to World Health Organization.
