Kuwait will continue to not issue work permits to expats over 60 who do not have a university degree, official sources have confirmed. The clarification came in the wake of a report in a local daily, followed by several news portals stating amendments to the policy.
Reports stated the ban that took effect in January would be amended with strict restrictions and additional fees considering the labour market demands. However, sources confirmed that no decision has been made so far.
Kuwait's Public Authority for Manpower implemented the new policy after the authorities proposed a new plan to rebalance its population without unskilled foreign workers last year. The decision to stop renewing visas for expats has forced around 70,000 people to get back home, Kuwaiti media say.
