GCC envoys in India discuss closer cooperation, trade talks

Gulf Cooperation Council ambassadors in India held a meeting in New Delhi on Thursday to review Gulf-Indian relations and align positions on key regional issues. The session was hosted by Kuwait’s ambassador, Mishal Al-Shamali, in his role as chair of the GCC Ambassadors Council.

Al-Shamali told Kuwait News Agency that the envoys noted Kuwait’s role during its presidency of the GCC Supreme Council’s 45th session, saying it helped reinforce cooperation among member states. He said the meeting allowed ambassadors to exchange views on current challenges and outline shared priorities for stability and development across the region.

The talks included updates on regional and international developments and assessed progress in negotiations on a GCC-India free trade agreement. Officials also discussed expanding economic ties, increasing bilateral investment and exploring cooperation in sectors such as food security, cybersecurity and energy.

Representatives from Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE attended the meeting as part of the council’s regular diplomatic engagements.
