The Embassy of the State of Palestine in New Delhi on Wednesday welcomed India's decision to establish three development projects for the Palestinian people, describing the initiative as a significant step towards supporting Gaza's recovery and strengthening essential public services.
In a statement, the embassy expressed gratitude to the Government and people of India for committing to build a specialty hospital, an artificial limb fitment centre and a vocational training institute. The announcement followed India's pledge at the Palestine Donor Group meeting in Brussels.
The embassy said the assistance comes as Gaza continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, with much of its healthcare infrastructure damaged or rendered inoperable. It noted that shortages of medicines and medical supplies persist, while thousands of Palestinians who suffered amputations during the conflict require prosthetic care, rehabilitation and long-term medical support.
According to the statement, the planned specialty hospital and artificial limb fitment centre will expand access to specialised healthcare and rehabilitation services. The vocational training institute, meanwhile, is expected to equip young Palestinians with skills needed to rebuild livelihoods and support longer-term economic recovery.
The embassy described the projects as a reflection of India's continued commitment to humanitarian assistance and development cooperation with Palestine during a period of acute need.
It also welcomed India's continued support for a negotiated two-state solution, its backing for Palestine's full membership of the United Nations and its longstanding humanitarian and development partnership with the Palestinian people.
Expressing its appreciation, the embassy thanked India for what it described as its enduring friendship and commitment to peace, justice and international law.
The statement followed an announcement by India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the launch of the country's campaign for election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2028–2029 term in New York. There, he announced that India would undertake the three flagship development projects for the Palestinian people as part of its continued support for Palestine's development and humanitarian needs.
