4 journalists killed as Israeli strikes target Gaza’s Nasser Hospital

Khan Younis: Four journalists were among several people killed in an Israeli attack on Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza’s Khan Younis, which has been sheltering displaced and injured Palestinians. Hossam Al-Masri, Mohammed Salama, Mariam Abu Daqa, and Moaz Abu Taha lost their lives on Monday while covering the escalating humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.

According to Gaza’s health ministry, the initial strike targeted the fourth floor of Nasser Medical Complex, followed by a second attack as emergency crews arrived to evacuate the wounded and recover the victims. Video footage shows that moments after the first strike, paramedics and civil defence teams were struck again while attempting to assist the injured.

With this attack, the number of journalists killed since the start of the war in Gaza has risen to 244. The Gaza Government Media Office condemned the “systematic targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation,” holding the Israeli government, the U.S. administration, and other states participating in the conflict, including the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, fully responsible for these “heinous and brutal crimes.”

Hussam Al-Masri worked as a photojournalist with Reuters News Agency, Mohammed Salama was a photojournalist with Al Jazeera, Mariam Abu Daqa contributed to several media outlets, including Independent Arabia and the Associated Press, and Moaz Abu Taha was a journalist with NBC News.

Gaza Civil Defence confirmed that driver Imad Abdel Hakim Al-Shaer was also killed, while seven other Civil Defence members were injured while trying to rescue the wounded and recover the victims during the Israeli strike.
