Longest service: 100-yr-old enters Guinness World Records

New Delhi: A Brazilian man has entered the Guinness World Records for the longest term of service, 84 years and nine days, in the same company. The centenarian, Walter Orthmann, broke his own record of 81 years and 85 days, The Indian Express reported.

According to the Guinness website, Orthmann started his career at the age of 15 as a shipping assistant at a textile company in Santa Catarina, Brazil, on January 17, 1938.

He was eager to learn and got promoted to a position in sales and later a sales manager. During his middle ages, he started travelling and met many people of various cultures. This led to establishing good relationships and gathering clients, who later became his friends.

The website states that in business, it was important for Orthmann to be always up-to-date and to adapt to different contexts. The site says that Orthmann is in good health and has good mental clarity, and has an excellent memory.

He exercises every day, which maintains his vitality and energy in his workplace, his favourite place. He enjoys a calm life, the site adds.

Orthmann told the site that he does not do much planning for the next day but believes that 'tomorrow' is just another day for him to wake up to. He will exercise and go to work. One only needs to be busy with the present but not on the past or the future. "Here" and "now" are what counts, he added.
