Thiruvananthapuram: The state capital is still reeling from the shock hours after the reports emerged that a 23-year-old man has brutally murdered six members of his family including his mother and younger brother.

Affan, otherwise a comely young man with no criminal past, allegedly went on a killing rampage lasting two hours committing the crimes in three houses in Venjaramoodu.

In what looks like a spiral of vengeance from some Greek tragedy, Affan travelled 34 kilometres to reach different locations to carry out the blood-curdling crimes.

Three victims were found in a house in Perumala, Venjaramoodu with all of them having severe head and facial injuries.

Affan’s 14-year-old brother, Afsan’s body lay in the living room with ₹500 notes scattered around it.

It is reported that Affan bought his brother Kuzhi mandi from a hotel in Venjaramood before murdering him.

His mother Shemi, found critically injured in another room, was rushed to hospital. As the horror unraveled, Affan’s girlfriend, Farsana, was found dead in a chair upstairs.

A postgraduate student in Kollam, Farsana is believed to have accompanied Affan home after falsely telling her family she was heading for tuition.

Reports claim that an argument broke out in the home over their marriage.

Affan travelled 34 kilometers to carry out the crimes beginning with his 14 km jaunt from his Perumala home to Kallara-Pangode. Here he murdered his grandmother Salmabeebi and then headed to Chullalam, seven kilometers away, and killed his father’s brother Latheef and Latheef’s wife, Shahida.

Eventually, he came back to Perumala and killed his mother, brother, and girlfriend.

Following the gruesome murders, Affan hired an autorickshaw to the Venjaramoodu police station and surrendered, where officials initially did not buy his confessions.

When he reeled off details of locations and victims, police rushed to places he referred, only to find gruesome crime scene.

From his house in Perumala, police transported his mother Shemi who was critically injured to hospital.

Locals expressed disbelief over the horrendous incident with police suspecting Affan’s potential drug abuse leading to the crime.
