BJP councillor commits suicide, leaves note: “No one helped during crisis”

Thiruvananthapuram: BJP leader and Thirumala Ward councillor of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Anil Kumar, committed suicide, leaving a note against the party leadership. He took his life at the office of the Valiyasala Farm Tour Society.

He was found hanging at the office, which he had arrived at around 8 a.m. A suicide note, believed to be written by him, was recovered. In the note, the president of the Valiyasala Farm Society stated that he was left alone to deal with financial issues and that no one offered him any help.

"When problems arose in the Society, I was left alone. No one helped me. I did not take even a single rupee. I take full responsibility for all the faults. That is why I am ending my life," the suicide note explains.

The tour society had provided loans exceeding ₹6 crore. When financial problems arose in the society, investors demanded their money back. However, the funds could not be returned. As a result, a complaint was filed with the Thampanoor police. Based on the complaint, the police sought information from Anil Kumar, an office-bearer of the society.

Meanwhile, party workers intercepted journalists who had arrived to report on the BJP councillor’s suicide. The workers confronted reporters from newspapers and television channels at the society office. They reportedly pushed the journalists from the building and damaged their cameras. District president Karaman Jayan clarified that the journalists’ interception was not carried out with the party’s knowledge and should be investigated.

Meanwhile, the BJP district leadership responded to the explanations in Anil Kumar’s suicide note. The leadership clarified that the tour society has no direct connection with the party. Complaints arose when the society was unable to return investors’ money on time.

The party reportedly approached the complainants directly and requested more time to repay the funds. Since the society has assets, there was no difficulty in returning the investments. Therefore, there was no reason to blame the party leadership. Karaman Jayan stated that the circulated information is incorrect.
