Mysterious death of nun in Kerala: Crime Branch set for further investigation

Kozhikode: Crime Branch is preparing to reinvestigate the case of Sister Jyoti, who was found dead in a well st in the grounds of Kallurutty Sacred Heart Monastery in Kozhikode, Kerala on November 20 1998. The 21-year-old nun's mysterious death was earlier classified as a suicide by the local police.

Based on the complaint from the Catholic Laymen's Association sent to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the High Court had ordered the Crime Branch to take action.

The post-mortem report states that death was due to drowning but also indicated the wounds in her body and its bleeding. On this suspicion, a complaint was filed and an investigation was begun by the local police.

Sister Jyothy's family strongly believes that there was no chance of suicide. At the beginning of the investigation, the Crime Branch confirmed the findings of local police. Following the DGP's response to the investigation, the Crime Branch is set to reinvestigate the case and some statements have been recorded.
