UP Journalist found dead after threats from liquor mafia, cops call it 'bike accident'

Uttar Pradesh: A TV journalist  Sulabh Srivastava was found dead under under mysterious circumstances on Sunday night in Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh district. 

A day before the incident, Sulabh Shrivastava of ABP News and its regional arm, ABP Ganga, had written to senior officials in the police  that he felt he was in danger. He attributed it to his recent reportage of liquor mafias in the district.

Seeking protection, Srivastava had said he had been informed by sources that the liquor mafia was angry with him after the publication of his report and may harm him or his family. 

The cops have, however, concluded it as a 'motorcycle accident' suggests reports.

As per the statement given by Pratapgarh police, "Srivastava was returning on his motorcycle after media coverage, at around 11 pm at night on Sunday. He fell from his motorcycle near a brick kiln. Some labourers lifted him from the road and then used his phone to call his friends. He was taken to the district hospital where the doctors declared him dead."

The police also added they reached to this conclusion bases on the initial probe which revealed that Srivastava fell after his "bike collided with a handpump along the road."

The cops also added that they are also probing other angles in the matter.
