Kannur: A rabid dog attacked 30 people, including children, in Iriveri, Chakkarakkal, and surrounding areas of Kannur district on Thursday, prompting many victims to seek medical treatment, health officials said.

Several injured individuals received care at the district hospital, with one person admitted for further observation. Two others, who have vaccine allergies, were referred to the medical college for specialized treatment.

A team led by District Medical Officer (DMO) Dr. Piyush M. Namboothiripad visited the hospital to assess the condition of the injured. The DMO assured that all necessary treatments were being administered and confirmed the availability of adequate anti-rabies vaccine supplies in the district.

“All those who sought treatment have been given the vaccine. There is no cause for concern,” the DMO stated.

Locals reported that a single stray dog was responsible for all the attacks, biting pedestrians and even entering homes to attack residents. Victims sustained injuries to their legs, arms, and faces.

The dog was eventually beaten to death by a man who had also been attacked.
