Supreme Court grants interim bail to Siddique in sexual assault case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday granted interim protection from arrest to actor Siddique in a rape case, Live Law reported.

Earlier the Kerala High Court dismissed the actor's anticipatory bail plea in the sexual assault case filed against him based on complaint by a young actress.

The Kerala High Court dismissed his plea on September 24 considering the seriousness of the accusations he was facing, which required his custodial investigation for the proper investigation of the crime.

The apex granted the actor interim protection from arrest on the condition that he would appear before the police and cooperate with investigation.

Hearing Siddique’s plea challenging a Kerala HC order, a bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma issued notice to the Kerala government and the actress who raised the allegations.

After the Kerala High Court dismissed his plea, the actor was reportedly on the run.

Following the actress’ complaint, the Museum police registered a case against Siddique on August 27.

Subsequently, Siddique filed a counter-complaint against the actress.

The actress alleged that Siddique subjected her to sexual abuse in 2016 at a hotel.
