Sexual harassment: No bail for Bobby Chemmanur; gets remanded

Kochi: In the case that charged sexual harassment against businessman Bobby Chemmanur, based on a complaint filed by actor Honey Rose, the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate Court denied him bail. The court rejected Chemmanur’s bail plea and remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Honey Rose's response after hearing the verdict was that the law should take its course.

Meanwhile, Chemmanur’s blood pressure went high, and he, who underwent medical examination Wednesday night and Thursday morning, was allowed to rest in the courtroom. Later, he was taken to the hospital, and it was learned that after medical attention, he would be shifted to Ernakulam District Jail.

His lawyer, Advocate Raman Pillai, announced that he would appeal against the verdict.

The police had produced the mobile phone recovered by Bobby Chemmanur in the court.

A case had been registered against Chemmanur under Section 75 of the BNS for insulting womanhood and Section 67 of the IT Act for making obscene remarks through electronic media. He was taken into custody by the police on Wednesday morning from his estate in Meppadi, Wayanad, after making arrangements to block his attempts for anticipatory bail.

During interrogation, he said that he had not committed any crime and that his remarks were not malicious. He told the police that what he had shared in interviews were mythological matters and that the obscene expressions were just a misunderstanding. The actress deliberately made the case and claimed that even after his remark about “Kunthi Devi” from Mahabharata, she remained friends with him. It is said that he used the mythical reference with an inappropriate connotation.

As soon as Honey Rose filed the complaint on Tuesday, a case was registered against him, and proceedings were initiated. The actress gave her confidential two-hour-long testimony before the Ernakulam First Class Judicial Magistrate. Then, upon learning that he was in Wayanad, the officials reached there on Tuesday night.

It is expected that more charges are going to be added against Chemmanur.

Meanwhile, Honey Rose spoke to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan regarding the complaint.

It was on Sunday that Honey Rose came up with an allegation that someone was insulting her using sexually loaded expressions, though she did not take a name then.
